WFMW - Get Rid Of Spiders

I hate spiders. I mean, I really hate spiders. I have two great ways of getting rid of any spiders that dare to enter my home.

First, if I'm home alone I will suck them up with the vacuum. This works great since we have a central vac where the motor and the thing that collects the dirt (and spiders) is in the garage. If the spiders can make their way out of all the dirt and dust that is collected, more power to them. BTW, I get my husband to empty the vacuum, just in case there are any survivors.

Second, I pay my kids $1 for every spider they kill inside the house. This is a small price to pay to have a spider free home. The only downside to this is that sometimes when the kids get low on cash they'll go "spider hunting" in the basement.

There is a third option, which is to get my husband to kill the spiders, but my husband has this mistaken idea that "spiders are good because they kill other bugs." This option is a last resort as I don't like having conversations about the ethical and humane treatment of spiders while said spider is scurrying across the ceiling over my bed.

If you want more great tips, head over to Rocks in my Dryer for Works For Me Wednesday!

Do you get many spiders? Perhaps I'm glad that we didn't move to WI!

Funny tips! My four year old is a fully deputized Spider Killer--though he's been taught to call for a parent if he sees a black widow. I read somewhere that spiders hate lemon Pledge so I've been using that on all my baseboards for several months. It is truly not scientifically tested but I haven't seen a spider in the house since I started using the lemon Pledge.

I'm with you I hate spiders, and here we don't get many, but back in Utah where i'm from and moving back there are tons, and there they have the Hobo Spider that is large hairy and poisons, (YUCKY) and they are agresive, and that is not good, so you have to watch out for those...
Only have one child still living at home and she runs from spiders, so I can't get her to do it and my Hubby really dosn't care to or not to, but he laughs at me, so I just grab something and kill them...
I do like the idea that Sahmmy has I think I will have to try Lemon Pledge...
You all have a great day...

ROFL!!!! i just had a great laugh too.. :)

You wouldn't fare well at our house during the summer. We live in the south, near a load of trees...and each summer we always have this one huge kind of spider set up residence on our front porch. I don't know what kind they are, but we only ever have one....one per summer... the web is about 5 feet in diameter, and he's literally as big as a small saucer plate and really thick. The first summer we named him "Frank"...then "Frank Jr". Then there was "Franklin". :) He never bothers anyone..just sits in the middle of his web minding his own business. I feel kinda sad when he dissappears in the fall! (I know, kooky huh).

Now...spiders in the house are a whooooolllleeee different ball game for some reason. I HATE the little ones in the house and about panic if I find one near me! :)

Having been bit 4 times by a black widow (in one night involving a trip to the ER, long stroy) and having cought a nasty hobo who wouldn't die- even after being doused in Raid inside a jar... we are in some sort of all all-out war with spiders around here. My boys know that any spider in the house is as good as dead and if they don't get it they have to listen to mommy scream... their hearing is reward enough I guess :) Outside, though we let 'em live and it IS kinda educational to watch them spin a web with a glass window between us and them.

And yeah, the moral debate about the rights of spiders is what I get when asking hubby to kill them too... good luck with that one!
