WFMW - Backwards Edition

As you can see from my sidebar, I recently opened an Etsy shop. Now, I don't have much in there yet, but I am hoping to add more items soon.

What I am looking for is any and all advice you can give me on running an Etsy shop. Like, what sells best, how do you decide on shipping costs, what do you do with an item that doesn't sell, and anything else you can think of!

Please leave a comment with your advice, and help me to make this shop a success! Help more ladies with your fantastic advice at Rocks In My Dryer!

I currently have an etsy shop selling soy candles! I just sold my first 2 items!

I have found that listing items every day or every couple of days help with getting more exposure than listing a bunch of items at once.

I also just do a search for the item I'm going to list to see what the range of shipping costs are. I don't want to charge an outrageous price and have the item not sell because of that, but it still needs to be high enough to cover shipping.

Good luck with your store!

Yay! ETSY! I have no advice. I just love etsy. And am so excited to look at your store!

The only thing I can think of off the top of my head, is search other people's items like yours...and then base your prices/shipping on theirs...

Cute items! I've only bought on Etsy so I'll tell you what stands out for me when I'm browsing: a friendly writeup on your store page with discounts for multiple purchases. For instance, when I was looking for hair clips for my daughter I picked a store from the hundreds available because she offered 50% off the second item and was great with communication. Offer custom tweaks to your product as well--some of us may not be crafty enough to make our own items but would love to add our "signature" to what we buy--and that offers one-of-a-kind status too!
