A Changing Heart

The other day I realized that I haven't been watching much TV. I used to be a TV addict. Seriously, it would be on all day every day. I used to be hooked on soap operas. When my two oldest were babies, I would plan their nap time around my favorite shows so I could watch them uninterrupted. (I did stop watching soaps over 10 years ago) Until recently I was a news junkie and if there wasn't anything else on to watch, (HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Discovery Channel, BBC America)I'd have a 24 hour news channel on. I watched anything and everything that caught my fancy.

But the Lord has been changing my heart. I didn't really notice it at first, but I am realizing that since I have been reading my bible daily, my tastes and interests are changing. I no longer feel drawn to the TV. And there are so many shows on TV that I previously found funny, but now I just don't want to put that in my head. (I'm not saying that watching TV is bad in itself. I still enjoy watching occasionally, just not all day every day)

I am also noticing an actual desire to be in the Word. I only used to read my bible occasionally, and only out of a sense of obligation. Now I look forward to it, and I feel drawn to read and understand what Gods Word says.

The only thing I can say about these changes is that it is all the Lord. I know for sure that this didn't come from me. I have no natural desires for what is right and good. The only reason for these changes is that the Lord chose to change my heart. And I am so thankful. While I have been writing, this verse came to mind:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Philippians 4:8 esv
Has the Lord been making a change in your heart? Please feel free to share!

Oh, yes! Me, too. I rarely sit and watch TV anymore. It's not near as appealing as it used to be. Same as reading. I still love a good book, but reading could take over my life before. Now, I have to keep my hands busy.

And housework? I used to loathe it, but now find enjoyment. God is good.

I completely understand. The only shows I really enjoy on TV now are the educational ones (TLC, HGTV, Food, etc.) Thanks for your post. By the way, I tagged you on my blog for a meme. No pressure, just fun. Hope you have a wonderful day!

i have seen this about myself too. Although there are a couple of tv shows that I watch, which aren't really wholesome, i have found that my several shows a day have now dwindled down to three a week. And i have found that I am most grateful for this writers strike because we never have the tv on at all...

What an awesome testimony! Made me think of how when we drink soda all the time water just doesn't taste good. But if you cut out sodas, water is delicious! Living water vs. Soda T.V.
Thanks so much for sharing this!

God is changing my heart to...driving me sraight to His word!
